Appearance: The first thing you would notice about Beyond when looking at him are his eyes; they are the color of blood and ringed by large black circles from a lack of sleep. Naturally born with them, he has no idea as to why or how but he doesn't question. He does, however, often wear black contacts to cover them.
The next thing you might notice is that he is tall and thin, obviously underweight for his estimated 6'0" height. His hair is jet black and unkempt, giving him an all around rough look.
Personality: Beyond is incredibly intelligent. So much so the stereotype of "all geniuses are insane" fits him perfectly. He has obvious mental diseases, and very rarely forms coherent thoughts. This is probably caused by the constant stream of information about the humans in the world he receives. He uses many different methods in getting his message across.
He lacks any compassion when dealing with most people. There is one goal, and the goal is L. To surpass L is the only thing that B cares about and if you do not help B reach this goal in any sort of way you will find yourself either ignored or disposed of. He can, however, hold a conversation with someone, and one that seems quite normal even, if the day and time is right.
Also, he WILL copy L and try to make people think that he is L. He wears contacts and changes his appearance and personality to make himself seem like L.
In a more humorous aspect of his personality, B has an extreme liking for jam. (Along the lines of the way that L has a thing for sweets.)
Abilities/Strengths: Beyond is incredibly intelligent. He is very good at problem solving and trickery. On the more magical side of things, Beyond was born with a particularly odd ability. He was born knowing the name and lifespan of every human being in his world. The only lifespan he doesn't know is his own. He also does not know every single persons face, so he needs to see a face to confirm the lifespan and name.
Weapons: Upon arriving at Sieben, B was given animal features, and now has claws and sharp teeth. Also, Sasori gave him a Machete and a Hatchet.
Weaknesses: Beyond's true major flaw is his obsession with his predecessor. In his pursuit to reach the level of greatness he held, Beyond snapped from the pressure leaving him in a severely broken mental state.

History

Little is known about Beyond's early years. He lived with his parents in northern England until his father was murdered and his mother killed shortly afterwards in a car accident. Upon being taken in by an orphanage, he seemed to care very little about the fact that his parents had both died.

This orphanage was known as Whammy's House. On the outside, it seemed a normal orphanage for the gifted, but in reality, any orphan could tell you it was much different than that. Children were all, from the time they came there no matter how old, set up with a rigurous daily class schedule. The tasks were challenging and the ultimate goal was clear: Be better than everyone else, and you too can one day become the top detective in the world.

Beyond took this goal very seriously. He worked constantly, never letting up in his pursuit. Try as he might, he never did make it to be number one, but he came close. It wasn't until the person ahead of him broke under the pressure and took his own life that B could finally be considered first in line to succeed the great detective.

But something snapped in his head. He no longer felt satisfied just trying to be like his predecessor, he wanted to be better then him.
He ran away from England and moved to the United States. Once there, he changed his appearance to match that of L's. Hair was styled, makeup was applied, bad posture adapted, and contacts worn so that he would be virtually indistinguishable from L.

Realization hit Beyond eventually, and he knew he would never become a greater detective than L so he changed his mind set. He would become the best criminal, so good that even L would not win in the end. He began a series of murders in LA, leaving cryptic clues as to who he was behind.
L arrived to LA, already knowing who the criminal was. However, he still needed concrete evidence and so hired Misora Naomi to collect it. Beyond met Misora by waiting for her at a crime scene. He introduced himself as "Ryuzaki" and told her that he was a private investigator, basically impersonating L.

He began to assist Misora on the case, meeting up with her at the different crime scenes and helping her figure out the clues. Then one day, Beyond attacked Misora, not knowing she knew a form of martial arts called 'capoeira'. Misora didn't know who her attacker had been, so she continued to work with Beyond.

It wasn't until the two were staking out the place where the next murder was predicted to be by the killer's clues that Beyond slipped up.
He was about to leave Misora when she became nervous. Beyond told her that she would be okay because she knew capoeira and then it hits her that "Ryuzaki" is the killer because she had never told him about this - only the person who had attacked her would know.

Beyond, unknowing that he gave himself away, went to an empty room and doused himself in gasoline. His plan from the beggining of the murders had been to kill himself in the end by burning. Because that meant that the case would never be resolved. No finger prints, no face, he would be completely unrecognizable and therefor no murderer ever caught; meaning L would lose.

But apparently, fate had something else in store for Beyond, and he would soon come to find himself in a strange forest...

Relationships:
L Lawliet :: The object of Beyond's unhealthy obbsession. Loves L with all his heart and also hates him. More-or-less forced L in to becoming his lover.
Kazumi-san :: B is infatuated by this girl because she seems like she stepped straight off the page of a shoujo manga. Likes to give her ero drawings of herself.
Sasori :: B is amused by Sasori. specially since Sasori allowed B to murder him and gave him shiny toys to play with. Friends?
